My surf journey started with a frigid winter afternoon in 40 degree water and a frozen brow. Even then, it was clear that this sport would change me.           Surfing has introduced me to exotic places, great people, and has motivated me to push through mental & physical barriers.

Surfing has also provided the perfect respite from the often unkind realities of being black in America. Somehow, that background noise just falls away in the water.

I often wondered why surfing has not attracted more people of color. That wonder evolved into action.

Black Surf Life originates from a passion for surfing and the desire to be a gateway for people of color to this incredible sport.  Here, you’ll find a safe space to discover, express yourself, and elevate your life through surfing.
